I recently finished reading The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science by Tom Bethel, which my dad found at our local public library. Politically Incorrect Guide is actually an entire series of books pertaining to an assortment of interesting topics, and as my dad had seen advertisements for them in a few places, he was happy to find one of their works. Intriguing and well-written, PIG Science made for a fascinating look at a variety of currently debated subjects including global warming, alternative energy sources, stem cell research, the African AIDS epidemic, endangered species, dioxin and DDT, cloning, evolution, and decoding the human genome for cancer treatment.
Throughout the entire book, I found that Bethel was both respectful in his disagreements with the scientific community, and well-researched in his arguments. He took a hard look at some known “facts” and asked some provoking questions. He uncovered surprising data and cited numerous studies that present different information than that which is currently being propagated by scientists and the media alike. On every issue, I felt Bethel made a pretty convincing case.
From the scientifically inclined person to lay people seeking to understand the issues surrounding current scientific controversies, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Science makes a worthwhile read. You will not be disappointed.
Sounds good. I have read The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History by Thomas E. Woods Jr. and The Politically Incorrect Guide to the South (and why it will rise again) by Clint Johnson, and found both very interesting and kinda fun. One day i’ll read all the titles yet, but the Science one sounds good because global warm is going to be a big issus next election. God bless.
